Clearfield Utah

Bordered by Hill Air Force Base and Wasatch Mountains on its east, while Syracuse, West Point and Great Salt Lake on its west, this is where Clearfield Utah is located. It is considered to be one of the last communities to be settled in the northern part of Utah. It was first called “Sandridge”. Only little available water and the land were recognizing to be fruitless. Clearfield was given instead of Sandridge. It was suggested by a teacher who has the idea since the open surrounding looks so attractive when you looked out over the area.

The first settlers of Clearfield Utah are couple emigrant from England. They were Richard and Emily Hamblin who had lived with their family in Layton for several years. In 1877 they decided to have their own home in the place where it is now called as Clearfield. To describe their home in Clearfield, it was first a hollow with a thatched roof made of sage brush and covered with dust.

The first problem of Hamblins’ is the water shortage in the place. Richard usually brought water from Kay’s Creek in Layton and brings it in their place that takes time and hard work. Thus, he started to dig several areas to make a surface for wells. He doesn’t succeed until the year of 1881 when he found water upon digging. Water was supplied on 1884 where it came from Davis and Weber countries canal after the completion of East Canyon Dam. This is the reason why a lot of people migrated to Clearfield Utah.

Clearfield Utah

Farming industry grew and the local farmers needed a market to promote their products. That is why Wood Cross Canning Cooperative begun in 1892. It has different fruits and vegetables. The most common sold are tomatoes. The demand of cannery grew bigger and the canned goods grew in number. It helps to employed people each season and significant to Davis Country employer. Not only on World War II where the supplies demand increase but people are lessened. The cannery leads to hire people who are Japanese-American and even Germans and Italians prisoners of war. But later on, the well-out performed strategies closed. It also the time were the farming decreased.

By 1869, Utah Central Railroad was installed in Clearfield Utah. The people in the Bamberger Electric, Ogden and Salt Lake are stopping on the rail road of Clearfield. Farming started to be stable by 1940. The construction of Air force already started in 1940 and the facility rapidly stretched along the eastern part of Clearfield Utah. It provided many jobs for the civilians and even turned to be Utah’s majors’ employers.

Clearfield Utah was considered to be top prime locator for depot because of its relative security from enemy attack. The dry climate also helps in giving good storage and good supply of manpower. The depot installed in Clearfield Utah was an important naval installation for the warehousing and even in supplies distribution to West Coast Supply points.

This is the start of good stand of Clearfield Utah.
